Dostoevsky collects nothing. There's no account, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising and no tracking. The developer never receives your writing or anything about how you use the app.
Your files
Your documents are ordinary files that stay where you save them. The app also keeps its own data on your Mac, in its Application Support folder: preferences, the last 20 backups of each file, unsaved changes for crash recovery, and the list of recent files. None of it leaves your Mac. Delete the folder and it's gone.
Spelling is checked by macOS on your Mac.
AI, only if you set it up
AI features are off until you add a service in Preferences → AI. After that, the app talks to a service only when you ask it to: AI ideas (⌘⇧G or ??), a Lab pass, a trim, Connect, Test connection, or opening Preferences → AI to list models.
- Each request goes straight from your Mac to the service you chose (for example OpenRouter, OpenAI, or Ollama and LM Studio running on your own Mac). It doesn't pass through any server of ours.
- A request carries only the text it needs: for ideas, the paragraph around the phrase, the document's title and the versions you already have; for Lab passes and trims, the text of the document.
- What the service does with that text is covered by its own privacy policy. Local services (Ollama, LM Studio) never send it anywhere.
- API keys are stored in your macOS Keychain. Connecting OpenRouter signs you in through your browser and keeps the key it returns in the Keychain.
Apple
If you install from the Mac App Store and have chosen to share analytics with app developers in macOS settings, Apple may pass on anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. That's controlled by Apple and by you, in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
This website
dostoevsky.app is a static site on our own server. It sets no cookies, runs no scripts or analytics, loads nothing from other sites, and keeps no access log of who visits.
Children
The app collects no data from anyone, children included.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. The app is open source, so you can also check what it does in its code. Questions go to GitHub Issues.
